Polish Herring with Pickles Salad Recipe
Herring Salad (in Polish Salatka Sledziowa) is a traditional fasting meal that Poles for 2 main holidays – when we are fasting before Easter Sunday and on Christmas Eve. However, nowadays, it is served anytime during the whole year.
I also make this salad for home parties and serve it on a piece of cracker or baguette.
Herring Salad Ingredients:
-4 Herring Fillets (marinated in oil), cut in stripes
-5 Pickles (small ones), cut in little squares (size of corn), drained
-1/2 Onion (small), chopped
-2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
-2 Tbsp Sour Cream (or Natural Yogurt)
-1/2 tsp each: pepper and dried or fresh dill
Mix ingredients together in a bowl. Serve cold.
